This painting was such fun to create! I really loved some close up abstract pictures of yarn I had come across on Flickr and wanted to take that as loose inspiration. Theres something very pleasing about the ordered chaos of yarn in a ball or skien, and of course it gave me an excuse to go 3D.

I started by painting the whole canvas (including sides) in a gorgeous bright fuchsia pink solid colour, then added lashings of purple, cyan and vermilion orange mixed with texturising medium to make very raised rough 3D sweeps across the canvas. Following the flow of these marks I added more paint in a variety of ways including using the end of a chopstick and squeezing straight from the tube onto the canvas. The whole melange is pulled together by the pleasing combination of colours, which I have to say came straight from nature (inspired by many different exotic blooms)!

The finished painting is very striking - the colours literally 'zing' off the canvas at the same time as the gentle sweeps and meandering lines give a feeling of softness and calm. It will make a real focal point in your home.

This painting is on a box frame stretched canvases with the staples on the rear of the frame for neatness. The edges of the canvas have been painted a rich pink / purple colour (see photos). The painting is are ready to hang and requires no framing. It has been signed and dated on the rear.
