Über mich

Jose Lampreia is a painter, photographer and illustrator. He Live and work near Lisbon, Portugal. Having lived in London for more than 20 years, Jose Lampreia exposure to numerous foreign cultures, religions and art forms has influenced him with a very personal artistic perspective. His artwork is mostly intuitive marked by innovation and experimentation.

Starting with an empty canvas or in his digital darkroom, the imagery, passion and emotion in each work come about spontaneously and unconsciously. He almost never plan his paintings and photographs because in the end his creations always become something quite different.

When working with photography and shooting a scene, He his not trying to capture a truthful depiction of reality but compose images that evoke certain moods and feelings. He enjoy creating artwork with an enigmatic and decayed look.

In his paintings, mainly imaginary portraits and abstract landscapes, He like to interact with the canvas in a more tactile way, often using his hands to paint and achieve a different kind of relation with his work.

The interpretation of each image is left to the individual viewer's personal vision, imagination and emotions.
