Dale Chase Coykendall was born and raised in Connecticut into a large boisterous family of eccentric artists and gardeners. An unusually quiet child she learned early on (2nd grade) that the right image(a tap dancing frog) could bring recognition and creative satisfaction. Many happyyears passed.Dale left her quiet town in Vermont to study graphic design at Parsons School of Design.
She worked joyfully creating award winning corporate annual reports, brochures, logos, and Zabar’s first mail order catalog. Volunteering with the Green Guerillas helped to turn empty lots in her East Village neighborhood into community gardens. Her heart and green thumb brought her back to another small town where she heads a graphic design firm . Buoyed by the birth of her daughter she started drawing again. She drew dancing bunnies, jumping cats and brightly colored monsters. Dale designed and produced a sweet doll that she named after her daughter Elizabeth. Her note cards and Vermont Lizzy Doll soon developed
a devoted following of collectors. A line of pillows and rugs followed. And her daughter told her to stop naming stuff after her.
Her illustrations adorn packaging for a variety of Vermont specialty food products from ketchup
to brownie mixes.
